WHAT IS PERIODONTOLOGY (GUM DISEASES AND TREATMENT)?

Periodontology is defined as the branch of dentistry that deals with the treatment and treatment applied as a result of the loss of health of the tissues surrounding the teeth, namely the gums and the bones formed by the tooth roots. In this department, the doctors who receive their specialization work as periodontologists (periodontists). Although periodontologists are known for treating gum diseases, they can actually apply many different treatment methods to patients. These treatment methods can be listed as follows;

Bacterial Plaque Removal; Bacterial plaques can cause tooth inflammation and tooth decay. For this reason, it is necessary to clean the bacterial plaques from the tooth surfaces. Periodontologists remove these bacterial plaques.

Microbial Dental Plaque; Due to this plaque formation, the teeth become inflamed and this inflammation needs to be cleaned, if this inflammation is not cleaned, it can go down to the roots of the teeth and cause tooth loss. The most important task of the periodontology specialist is to diagnose the disease and to choose the treatment method to be applied along with it.

Gum Bleeding; Gum bleeding can cause problems other than tooth loss that will negatively affect oral and dental health. For this reason, if the patient has a gingival bleeding problem, a periodontology specialist should definitely be examined.

HOW IS PERIODONTOLOGY TREATMENT PERFORMED?

Periodontology Treatment can be applied by following the steps below;

– First of all, the disease is diagnosed.
– The patient is informed about the existing disease.
– Oral care cleaning is done by a periodontologist. If there is an inflamed tooth, the anesthetic method is preferred and the inflammation is cleared.
– If there is an inflamed tooth or teeth, periodontologists may administer antibiotic treatment.
– If the gingivitis is advanced, periodontology specialists remove the existing inflammation with local anesthesia and general surgery method.
